Which SCAC-code do I have to include in Portbase prior to entering the booking number in the prenotification to the ferryterminal?

If you prenotify  to the ferry terminal in Portbase, the first 4 positions (SCAC code) of the booking number make sure that the notification is sent to the correct ferry operator. Read the full explanation for export and import at Portbase Support.

Can I as a truck driver travel to the UK with an ID card after Brexit or do I need a passport?

You can use your identity (ID) card to travel to the United Kingdom (UK) up to and including 30 September 2021. From 1 October 2021 you will need a valid passport. If you become a UK resident on or before 31 December 2020, you can continue to use your ID card to travel between the Netherlands and the UK until at least the end of 2025.  Read more here.

Get ready for Brexit: important information for UK transport – No customs document? No digital pre-registration at the ferry terminal? Then no crossing!
Due to Brexit there will be customs formalities in freight traffic with the United Kingdom, effective from 1 January 2021. This has major consequences when you visit the Dutch ferry terminals. Without having a digital pre-registered customs document in Portbase you will be denied access to the ferry terminal.

What does the Port Community System do?

The Port Community System (PCS) of Portbase is the digital connection to the smart ports of the Netherlands. The PCS has almost national coverage and is available for all port sectors: containers, general cargo, dry bulk and liquid bulk. Through the more than 40 services in the PCS, all links in the logistics chain can easily and efficiently exchange information.

Go to Log in with the details that you have been provided.

I have registered with Portbase, but I have not yet received any login details

Please contact the Sales Department of Portbase at to check the status of your connection. Until you have received your login details, you can ask another party in your chain to pre-notify the customs documents for you via Portbase.

How long does it take before I receive the Portbase login details after registration?

This depends on the service, but normally 24 hours. Portbase performs a due diligence check. During peaks in registrations, this may take longer.

Why am I not granted access to the terminal and how can I fix this?

1) Booking is not known at the ferry or shortsea terminal:

  • Check or have checked whether the booking number is correct.
    • Booking number not correct? Use Portbase to have the pre-notification of the customs documents at the terminal corrected.
    • Booking number correct? Contact Portbase via

2) No customs declaration has been submitted to Customs:

  • Have a customs declaration filed with Customs.
  • Next, have the customs documents electronically pre-notified at the terminal via Portbase.

3) The customs documents have not been (correctly) pre-notified at the terminal via Portbase:

  • Have the customs documents pre-notified electronically at the terminal via Portbase.

4) You do not have a valid proof of identity:

  • Contact the consulate or embassy of your own country.
